Why add silk to soap?
Why add silk to soap?
Some of our formulas contain organic, raw tussah silk. Silk adds a whole new dimension to soap. With the addition of silk there is creaminess to the lather like nothing you have ever experience. We choose not to use liquid silk proteins in our soap because of the method of extraction and processing. Again, we make our product line with all natural ingredients with minimal processing.
The following article is from the Purple Sage.
Tussah or wild silk worms live naturally in tropical or semi-tropical forests. Their silk is gathered after the moth emerges. There are many varieties and shades of wild silk. As the caterpillars eat all kinds of different trees, all rich in tannin, the silk is beige to brownish toned. Tussah silks are wildcrafted and thus may be considered "organically raised". They are naturally tan, and generally are stronger and more resilient than cultivated "white" silks. Tussah silk fibers are added to the lye water mixture where it dissolves. Tussah silk is part of what makes our soap so silky feeling on your skin. Back to Articles |
