Healthy skin is more than just skin deep

Healthy skin is more than just skin deep. You need plenty of rest, good wholesome food, and lots of clean fresh water! A good rule of thumb is;

If you cannot pronounce it don?t eat it. If you don?t know the definition of it, don?t eat it.

The same principle applies to your skin. Stay away from mythel ethyl nasty stuff. Know your products, research everything you put on and in your body and the bodies of your family.

The right kind of soap does wonders for your skin! Healthy skin is dependent upon allowing one?s pores to breath while at the same time providing a barrier to retain moisture and protect your skin?s own natural balance. We make both vegetable-based and animal oil natural cold process soaps. By using they cold process method, your soap retains the highest proportions of protective emollient oils and skin-hydrating natural glycerin. Many of our customers have stated that by using our cold process soap they have reduced their dependence on hand and body lotion.

Dale Evans & Buttermilk

As stated above, our soaps are cold processed. What makes cold process soap unique? Cold process is the purest and most basic form of soap and may be formulated to hold essential oils and extra conditioners known as "superfat." It is very uncommon in the commercial market because soaps containing excess conditioning oils are more challenging to manufacture and essential oil scented soaps must be packaged and handled with care to ensure freshness. Lone Star Naturals uses a special combination of oils and butters as superfat to achieve a perfect balance of emollience, lather and bar longevity. Scented with pure essential oils rather than perfumes known as "fragrance oils or natural fragrance oils", our soaps also possess essential oil therapy benefits for the skin. We use natural plants or plant-based oils & substances that have documented properties that help with a wide range of malaise in order to enhance the functioning of the body's system.

Soap by definition a product made from saponified oils and or animal fats & an alkali. In the past, people made their own soap from animal fats and wood ashes. Today there are very few true soaps in the traditional sense on the market. You might recognize these soaps as products marketed with characteristics such as "pure" or "natural". "True" soaps are regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, not FDA, and do not require ingredient labeling. Here at West Texas Soapworks we list ingredients on all our labels so you know what's in your soap.

Most body cleansers on the market today are actually synthetic detergent products and come under the jurisdiction of FDA. These detergent cleansers are popular because they make suds easily in water and don't form gummy deposits. Some of these detergent products are actually marketed as "soap" but are not true soap in the common and legal definition of the word.

If a cosmetic claim is made on the label of a "true" soap or cleanser, such as moisturizing or deodorizing, the product must meet all FDA requirements for a cosmetic, and the label must list all ingredients. If a drug claim is made on a cleanser or soap, such as antibacterial, antiperspirant, or anti acne, the product is a drug, and the label must list all active ingredients, as is required for all drug products. Most commercial bars are tallow based "French Mill", a process used to lower product costs.

"Glycerin" soaps may contain propylene glycol and other undisclosed chemicals used to create transparency and facilitate ease of production. Liquid soaps are often synthetic detergents rather than soap and may contain chemical additives used to promote user convenience over skin conditioning. Craft store carry these clear "glycerin melt & pour soap". These soaps are extremely harsh and drying on the skin. What little glycerin they had to start with was used in the chemical process. Our liquid soaps are still mild and good for your skin.
